About Fish Public
Heading up the kitchen is Executive Chef Jordan Davis; a culinary talent recently arrived to San Diego. Jordan brings experience from Woodfire Grill in Atlanta, Nancy Oakes’ multi-James Beard winning Boulevard in San Francisco as well as the Food & Wine recognized nose-to-tail restaurant, Animal in Los Angeles.
Davis’ seafood menu features regional fare from across our oceans. Garnering inspiration and sourcing directly from the Atlantic’s Gulf Coast, New England and English coast you will find such items as fish and chips; crab cake BLT; shrimp and grits; and steamed mussels. The Pacific Ocean influences come from the West Coast of America, Baja and the Pacific Rim. Dishes include ceviche del día with avocado and chili lime popcorn; grilled octopus with artichokes, pepper almond relish and arugula; salmon tartare in a jar; and assorted street tacos.
A healthy selection of oysters are available at the open oyster bar/kitchen. These delicate molluscs are available with chef’s whim mignonettes, as well as house prepared accouterments. For non-seafood lovers, guests will not be disappointed with Mary’s chicken, hanger steak or FP burger. ‘Guppy’ menu showcases a fun selection of kids’ classics. Not to be missed are the simple and scrumptiously sweet delights such as seasonally baked pie and beignets.
Craft cocktails, draft and bottled beer and artisan wines have been hand selected to pair well with each menu offering. Refreshing house bottled cocktails and shrubs are a playful addition to the beverage menu.
The Nantucket beach cottage-inspired interior is a pleasure to the eyes. The light and airy space designed by Borkum and her co-collaborator Monika Crawford, focuses on the UKG model ‘from old + new’ – rustic and whitewashed wood accents and bead board, to lively patterns with a modern edge.
Bringing the best the ocean has to offer from both coasts, Fish Public in Kensington is cooking up sea life in every conceivable way …
Many have tried, and many have failed, but my pick for the best fish and chips in town is Fish Public …. Their chef has found the perfect balance in this dish, and their use of the Labrador Red fish along with their unique batter helps to differentiate it from other fish and chips that can be found around America’s Finest City.
Stunning dining experience. Service was fantastic, all the way ’round … and the food literally delighted us, so much so that I found myself bouncing in my seat like a happy kid with ice cream.
The Urban Kitchen Group with it’s signature branding, has done a great job in the Seafood Sister restaurant to the San Diego famed Cucina Urbana
Overall, I give Fish Public 5 Stars for great service, delicious food, and a comfy, cozy, modern-homey atmosphere.
